Cop couple robbed in daylight

A POLICEMAN and his wife, who is also an Assistant Sub-Inspector with the Police Headquarters (PHQ), were robbed of Rs 5,000 and other valuables in broad daylight near Nutan college in Habibganj area of the City while going to office on Thursday.

OP Verma, a Special Armed Forces (SAF) official and his wife, Pushpalata, who is posted with the (PHQ), were robbed by two motorcycle borne youths who sped away towards Char Imli after snatching the bag. Both are posted in the administrative branches with the rank of Sub-Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspector respectively.

A case has been registered and efforts were on to trace the accused on the basis of their appearance. Pushpalata said that one of the youths, who snatched her handbag, was tall and had a dusky complexion. Both are in approximately in 20’s and were riding a new motorcycle without a number plate.

A spate of robberies in New Bhopal has kept the police on the tenterhook since a couple of months though there was a relative lull lately. The robbery on Thursday has sent the police into a tizzy again given the daredevilry of the snatchers.  Senior police officials rushed to the spot. A parade of the history-sheeters of the area is being organised at the police station besides interrogation of youths with suspicious antecedents.
