Cop killed in MP road mishap

A police inspector was killed and six other security personnel were injured when the jeep in which they were travelling hit a roadside tree at Dhanbad crossing near Hoshangabad, police said.

A police inspector was killed on Wednesday and six other security personnel were injured when the jeep in which they were travelling hit a roadside tree at Dhanbad crossing near Hoshangabad, police said.

The deceased identified as Rai Singh Soni, Tawa Nagar Town Inspector was deputing the police force, in a prelude to veteran BJP leader L K Advani's visit to his area when he lost control over his vehicle and hit the tree, police said.

The injured were members of district police force and homeguards, police said. They have been admitted to a hospital in Itarsi.

The accident took place in the wee hours around 2.00 am.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who along with his family members is accompanying Advani's family in their trip to the district, rushed to the hospital this morning to meet the injured.

He announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of the deceased and Rs 10,000 each to the injured.

Chouhan said that the state government was ready to provide job to the inspector's wife.
