AN ALERT policeman late on Tuesday night saved an eight-year-old girl from molestation. A man had allegedly abducted the child who was with her mother and took her on his scooter to the Chinar Park where the policeman caught him. The accused has been booked for intent to outrage modesty of a minor girl and kidnapping.

Devki, wife of Rajkumar, a resident of Six Number Stop, had gone to a ‘bhandara’ and was returning home with her eight-year-old daughter and younger son. The dressing of her son’s wound came off and she sat on the roadside to fix it.

Meanwhile, a person on motorcycle stopped by, lifted the eight-year-old girl and sped off. As Devki realised that her daughter had been abducted, she cried for help.

A police constable, Kailash, who was passing by, went on the chase and traced the accused at Chinar Park where he was allegedly trying to molest the child.

SP Anant Kumar Singh said that the accused was in an inebriated state. Singh said that the MP Nagar constable would be rewarded for his alacrity. The accused has been identified as Basant Singh, a junior engineer in the PWD, who lives near Board Office. He is being interrogated.
