Highlight Story

I was at the Woodside Hotel, which adjoins Amnesia Lounge, having tea in their basement restaurant around 4 pm. That’s when I heard loud noises. I came up to the ground floor to find a group of about 10 men hitting a girl, trying to lift her skirt and blouse.

Outside, there were six or seven girls who were being treated in the same way — being pushed to the floor, beaten up and getting their garments mishandled.

I lost my cool at what they were doing and intervened by asking the goondas why they were assaulting the girls. If they wanted to break up the party and get them to leave, then why did they feel the need to lay hands on the women? That's when about 10 of them descended on me and starting whacking me on my back and slapping me on the face. They asked me why I was interfering, that I had no right to intervene and pushed me to the floor and forced me to retreat back to the hotel where I was having my tea.

I tried stopping them on grounds of humanity. There was quite a crowd that gathered outside and the people were watching the proceedings as if it was a movie. No one came forward to help. One of the bouncers even asked me not to interfere and
move away from the place.

I'm a Mangalorean and tried to help as it was absolutely wrong for the goons to assault and harass the women.

I didn't file a complaint because I don't know who these girls were. Also, the camera crews recorded the incident as evidence. The police arrived 10 minutes after the goons had cleared out and took my statement. But I didn't lodge a first information report.

The miscreants have tried to spread rumours that I am a Muslim but I am not. They have also called my home and threatened my father that they would kill me if I interfered any further. We have decided not to move residence and I have resumed my work (in the real estate sector) and my life.
