The city police have failed to make any breakthrough in the sensational robbery case by the notorious cabbie gang as the CCTV footage provided by a bank had no recordings on it.

The members of the cabbie gang on December 22 had abducted an MNC executive, Kamlesh Nathani, from Iffco Chowk on the Gurgaon expressway and withdrew R25,000 from the victim’s account using his debit card from ICICI Bank ATM counter. The police had hoped to nab the culprits using the footage.

Priyanka Nathani, the wife of the victim, told HT: “We hoped that the police would be able to get some clues about the accused from the footage. My sister-in-law, who works with ICICI Bank has seen the 15-minute footage. There was nothing on it. We are disappointed.”

The victim is still undergoing treatment in a Jaipur hospital.

“Relatives have advised us not to go back to Gurgaon and to look for a job in Jaipur though the city does not offer many options,” added Priyanka.

The incident took place on December 22 when Nathani, who works with Alcatel Lucent, got off at the Iffco Chowk Metro station and took a cab to reach his house in Sector 10.

There has been a spurt in attacks on passengers hiring shared taxis.

The modus operandi of the gangs is almost same. Members of gang board taxis as passengers along with the victim. On lonely stretches, they would rob and murder the innocent person. The number of murders went up to 26 before the accused were arrested.
