In a broad daylight act of dare, two motorcycle-borne criminals, who were fleeing after committing two back-to-back crimes, shot at policemen. The bullet hit the PCR van the policemen were driving.

The policemen kept chasing the assailants. After a 20-minute high drama, the van hit the attackers' motorbike. All of them were injured. But the criminals managed to escape.

The two bikers first eve-teased some girls at NTPC office in Sector 24.

Unmindful of the fact that the girls had reported the matter to the police, they kept roaming about and reached Sector 62 and snatched a chain from a woman.

"A police team soon reached Sector 62 and tried to arrest the two criminals on the bike. They opened fire at the policemen when they were followed by a PCR (44) van. The criminals left after leaving behind their motorbike and the firearm," a senior police official said.

"When the PCR (44) policemen got to know about the incident of chain snatching, they followed the snatchers. The person who was riding pillion suddenly pulled out a country-made revolver and fired at the van. After a collision, the van overturned and the two police constables and a driver were injured," the officer said.

Police constables Sushil, Pradeep and driver Jitender have been admitted in Fortis hospital in Sector 62. They are out of danger.

SSP Jyoti Narayan said the criminals fled and disappeared into the congested Khoda colony but would soon be arrested.
