Afghan police killed seven suspected Taliban rebels in two separate shootouts in volatile southern Afghanistan, police said on Saturday.

Four Taliban were killed late on Friday in an exchange of fire with Afghan police in the Garamsair district of the southern Zabul province, said Ghulam Rasool, the district police chief.

He said no police officers were wounded.

Also Friday, Afghan police raided a Taliban hideout in a remote area of Zabul province, triggering a shootout that killed three insurgents, said provincial police chief Noor Mohammad Paktin.
