Cops on killers? tail, sans clue

india Updated: Sep 22, 2006 00:11 IST

COPS HAVE got many leads to follow but no clue to reach the real motive behind the killing of CP Singh. The use of .30 bore pistol in the shootout established that the killers were hired for the job.

Cops recovered 10 shells of 7.65 bore from the spot. The same bore weapon has been used in over half-a-dozen high-profile killings in the city earlier, including the murder of La Martiniere College teacher Frederick Gomes. Primary investigations puzzled the cops as nobody close to the victim was ready to divulge the details related to CP Singh. School staff, including principal of Sector-I branch of LPS Manjula Khare, were tight-lipped.

Talking to HT Lucknow Live, SP (East) Ajay Shanker Rai said Singh had lent hefty amounts of money to some influential acquaintances. He had started forcing them to return the money. Since he had strong connections in the corridors of power, anyone of them could have hatched the plot to murder Singh, said Rai.

Police are also probing the role of a railway employees’ union leader of Alambagh. The union leader has criminal antecedents. The leader was close to CP Singh and was reportedly involved in Singh’s money matters.

Cops were now collecting information about those who had business relations with Singh. But, they could not get enough information out of his two brothers. Singh was also involved in several land deals. He had a dispute with a local BJP corporator for a land in Ashiana.
