In an attempt to facilitate kanwariyas, the traffic police have asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to make arrangements for the procession taken out by devotees of Lord Shiva.
The procession has started from July 16.
The police have written a letter to a senior NHAI official to provide facilities of barricading and lighting from the Kherki Daula toll plaza to Kapriwas Border on National Highway-8. The letter was sent on July 14.
“We have taken this step to prevent accidents on the highway. At times, such incidents turn violent and cause law and order problems. To avoid any untoward incidents, we have asked NHAI to arrange a separate pathway for kanwariyas on the left side of the road,” said a senior traffic police official.
NHAI has been asked to make arrangements for barricading the area.
Proper marking and lighting arrangements of this pathway may also be done, said a official.
He said the concessionaire firm may be directed to get in touch with the officials concerned and do the needful. Also they will be held responsible for any loss of life if there is laxity or negligence on their part, said the official.
Thousands of kanwariyas are expected to use the highway during the holy month of Shrawan.
