IN AN attempt to shed pressure in the Mehar Bhargava case, the Lucknow police today staged a drama of an encounter with absconding accused Sachin Pahadi in the busy Kaiserbagh area.

Significantly, no local resident corroborated the police claim and denied having heard gunshots or witnessing a police-criminal encounter.

SSP Ashutosh Pandey claimed that the police team engaged Sachin in an exchange of fire but the criminals, who suffered bullet injury in his leg, managed to flee along with his associates. Pandey further claimed that Sachin managed to flee because the area was crowded. He said Sachin and his aides were hiding in Kaiserbagh’s fish market area for the last four days.

The police teams later raided flat of a ‘journalist’ in OCR Building, Husainganj, in search of the accused. The cops claimed that they got info that Sachin used to stay at the flat along with a Mumbai-based gangster Asif Chikna and some other criminals of Varanasi. The journalist’s father is a police official.  The drama today began at around 2 pm when police wireless sets started flashing messages about police engaged in an encounter with armed criminals in Kaiserbagh area.
