Cornered skipper Dhoni blames it all on media

It seems when India's elite cricketers don’t have anyone else to blame for their behaviour — on or off the field — they point fingers at the media.

Robin Singh did that in England when the then fielding coach, instead of explaining why the team’s fielding was poor, said: “It is because of you guys that the team is fielding so badly”. And when the rift between MS Dhoni and Virender Sehwag was first reported, during the 2009 World T20 in England, the captain led a mini-fashion show of the team. After parading the squad to underline unity, Dhoni read out a statement attacking the media.

Dhoni was at it again on Saturday. After a fortnight marred by a war of words, Dhoni finally faced the media questions and gave a convoluted explanation.

“You have the press conference in tape. It will be interesting if you watch the whole conference. You will get the answer yourself, what exactly I said. And what exactly I meant. Often what’s important is you can’t see just that particular answer. Maybe the build-up is from the first question, as to what you are answering. Often we don't answer because the first part of the first question that we answer is actually an answer to the second or third question. If you see the entire press conference, it will give a valid point as to what was said,” Dhoni said, before adding he didn’t know “where it (reports of rift) came from”.

The captain blamed the touring scribes. He asked the media to listen to their tapes, but the Indian team management does not record media interactions, which is standard practice among all other teams.
