The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cancelled its corporators’ controversial tour to Thailand and Singapore after some members from the Shiv Sena and the Congress dropped their tour plan.

Twenty-seven members of the Standing Committee were scheduled to visit the two South East Asian countries this week.

The reason cited for the cancellation is that the corporators want to study the local zoos that will help them get an idea for planning Byculla Zoo development.

“It seems that the tour has been cancelled as no corporator come forward and registered his name for the tour. However, I don’t have an exact idea about cancellation,” said R.A. Rajeev additional municipal commissioner.

Ravindra Waikar, Standing Committee chairman said, “The tour has been cancelled as no one is willing to go. There was opposition from the common people and hence I have decided not to go for the tour.”

However, all Sena members have dropped the tour plan to visit, since the chairman has cancelled it.

The Nationalist Congress Party has boycotted the tour saying that it is waste of public money.
