Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Friday said his party had discovered four major shortcomings in the Jan Lokpal draft.

“I had told my colleagues that we should not point the shortcomings publicly, so when they came to meet us, the flaws were pointed out, to which they agreed.” Advani, however, did not elaborate on the points that his party had raised.

Addressing a press conference in Pune as part of his Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption, Advani said, “I do not subscribe to the view that corruption in the country is because of inadequacy of laws”.

“Even though the Jan Lokpal Bill has not yet been passed, many ministers have gone to jail in the recent past,” added Advani while responding to a query on the efficacy of the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the UPA government over Thursday’s petrol price hike, Advani said, “There is gross mismanagement of food economy under an economist prime minister”.

Alleging that the Congress was discriminative towards its allies, the former deputy PM said, “Why only DMK people are being made the scapegoats.” He was referring to DMK leaders Kanimozhi and A Raja, who have been indicted in the 2G Spectrum case and are in jail. He however, added he had no sympathy for them.

On black money, Advani said, “The agreement with Switzerland will become effective from April 2012. The UPA government seems to have indicated to the defaulters to transfer or withdraw their money by then.”
