The pre-admission process came to an end in Delhi University (DU) on Thursday and students have left no stone unturned to gain admission into an institution of their choice.

Fuelled by an anticipated high cut-off percentage and by limited seats, students are exploring several options. “Though my first choice remains getting into DU, yet one can’t take any risk in this competitive era. I have also applied at an acting institute in Mumbai and IP University,” said Pavail Gulati of Bluebells International School.

With 78 per cent in commerce, Pavail is not sure about his chances in DU. Many like Siddharth Vij from Mother’s International School are also exploring multiple options.

“There are a lot of avenues and what’s the harm in applying in other universities as well,” asks Vij who has also applied in a couple of colleges in Mumbai, Bangalore and some private institutes in the Capital, besides DU.
Counsellors in school too are making sure students do not end up wasting a year to get into DU.

“We are still getting queries from students on admissions and we make sure to inform them about the alternatives,” informs Eitshree Bhati, counsellor, DPS, RK Puram. Bhati adds that students are “more smarter and ready with alternatives after the Board results are out.”

Educationists maintain that options are aplenty beyond DU. And even if the college is not of your choice, there is hope in the second year.

“DU remains my first choice no matter which college I join,” says Rajdeep Puri, commerce student with 76 per cent marks. “I can always migrate to a better college in second year,” he adds.
