A couple was arrested for allegedly luring others to convert to their faith, police officials said on Wednesday. Wilson and Smita, who hail from Chennai and were residing in Kunda Nagar locality of Khargone in a rented house for last few months, were arrested for luring people with Rs 5,000, superintendent of police Amit Singh said.
The couple was 'active' in Gogawan, 20 km east from district headquarters and used to visit Naya Nagar locality quite often and spend long time with the residents there. Residents of this area mostly belong to backward classes and are poor.
Singh said that a resident of that area, one Kamla Bai, lodged a complaint with the police that Wilson approached her and tried to convert her to Christianity with a promise that she would be paid Rs 5,000 per month.
In initial inquiry the complaint was found to be true and the couple was arrested. Members of various Hindu organisations were also present during the police action.
