The sessions court on Saturday acquitted a 60-year-old man, accused of murdering his son and attempting to murder his wife last year.

Additional sessions judge S P Tavde acquitted Ramesh Pandre, after his wife Lakshmi Pandre told the court that it was not her husband but some unknown persons who had stabbed her son and injured her.

According to the police, on October 25 last year Lakshmi and her son Vishal Pandre (20) were assaulted by Ramesh with a knife. Ramesh, who was drunk at the time stabbed his son to death. Lakshmi who had also been attacked recovered later at a hospital.

Ramesh was arrested on the same day by the police after Ramesh's brother Rajaram Pandre lodged a complaint against him.

However, Lakshmi during the trial told the court that two unknown persons had stabbed her and her son and that her husband was innocent.

"According to Lakshmi, the police took her husband to the police station from the hospital claiming that he needs to be questioned. But the next day he was shown as accused in the case," Ramesh's advocate Khan Wahab Khan told PTI.

The court acquitted Ramesh on the basis of Lakshmi's statement and after the prosecution failed to prove its case against Ramesh.
