A Rajasthan court on Thursday adjourned the hearing in a sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram till December 9.
The court of district and sessions judge (Jodhpur rural), which was supposed to begin arguments over the chargesheet filed against Asaram and his four accomplices on Thursday, adjourned the hearing following an application by the police.
The Jodhpur Police sought an adjournment till the results of the Rajasthan assembly elections were out.
"Many police personnel have been deployed for vote counting, which is slated for Sunday. It is very difficult for us to provide proper security during the hearing," a senior police official said.
District and sessions judge Manoj Kumar Vyas admitted the plea and fixed December 9 as the date of starting the charge argument.
Before this, Asaram and his aides were produced before the court amidst tight security.
Asaram's counsel also filed an application before the court, seeking a copy of a compact disk (CD) containing a video clip recovered from the mobile phone of Shiva, a close aide of Asaram. The clipping - the content of which has not been disclosed - has been sent for forensic tests.
"Court will hear our plea on Friday," said JR Choudhary, Asaram's counsel.
The self-styled godman and his aides - Shiva, Sharad, Shilpi and Prakash - are lodged in a Jodhpur jail in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh in Asaram's Manai ashram near Jodhpur on August 15.
The Rajasthan high court and the sessions court have rejected the bail plea of the godman twice.
Asaram's son Narayan Sai was arrested on Wednesday and taken to Surat in Gujarat in connection with another sexual assault case. Asaram is also an accused in the case.
