A city court on Friday granted bail to MDMK general secretary Vaiko, Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P Nedumaran and 150 others in connection with trying to proceed towards the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission here with an intention to forcibly shut it down.

Granting the bail to the pro-Tamil leaders, the Saidapet magistrate court directed them to furnish personal bonds of Rs 50,000 each and said they should appear before the investigating officer whenever summoned.

On Wednesday, Vaiko, Nedumaran and others were arrested when they tried to proceed towards the High Commission to forcibly shut it down in protest against the closure of the UN office in Sri Lanka.

They were arrested as they did not have permission to proceed towards the consular office.
