The Patna High Court on Tuesday ordered for video conferencing arrangements to conduct the trial of Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Mohammad Shahabuddin to dispose cases pending against him expeditiously.
Shahabuddin, under judicial custody, is undergoing treatment for a spinal problem at New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a surgery there on Saturday.
"The court has directed the BSNL, MTNL and NIC to make arrangements for Shahbuddin's trial via video conferencing," a court official said.
The court also directed the AIIMS authorities to send a progress report on Shahabuddin's health.
The Bihar government had two days ago decided to conduct the trial in the Siwan jail after his return from New Delhi later this month.
The high court had in September ordered the government to immediately conduct the trial through video-conferencing. But the government had not made any arrangements for it.
The MP from Siwan is involved in over 40 criminal cases, including those of murder, abduction and possession of illegal arms. He was lodged at the Siwan jail before being shifted to AIIMS.
