A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment a 45-year-old man who had been accused of raping his minor daughter in 2009.
Sentencing Mohammed Salauddin to life, Additional Sessions Judge Gurdeep Singh said, “The accused became a beast, from a human.” The court noted, “Every daughter looks up to her father as a protector.”
The court said a daughter shares a relationship of love, affection and trust with her father; it added that the act of the accused was the highest breach of trust.
According to prosecution counsel Virender Singh, “Salauddin (who has been married thrice) raped his 14-year-old daughter and in his defence, built up a false theory of her relationship with a neighbourhood boy.”
The court upheld the prosecution’s arguments, as the victim’s statement never varied during the course of the trial. The court said that the victim had clearly identified her father as the rapist.
Even though Salauddin’s eldest son requested the court to take a lenient view, the latter rejected the plea for a lighter punishment.
