The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday demanded a fresh probe into the accident at an explosive manufacturing unit in Singrauli district on July 5 in which 18 labourers were killed and 15 are still missing.

In a letter written to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, CPI (M) state secretary Badal Saroj has demanded a fresh probe into the explosions.

Saroj has alleged that the district administration and police are "protecting" the culprits under a conspiracy and have fixed the responsibility on a 'Sales Engineer' of the company by describing his as a 'Sales Manager'.

"It is disturbing that the police have wrapped up investigations into the explosion and have bulldozed the area despite the fact that 15 persons are still missing and among them reports of six labourers was filed with their names by their family members," Saroj said.

He asked the Chief Minister to direct the officials concerned not to wind up the probe till all the missing persons are found and also urged him to appoint a specialist for conducting an inquiry.
