CPI supports privilege motion by Natwar

india Updated: Aug 06, 2006 20:37 IST

Congress ally CPI on Sunday supported the notice for privilege against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, filed by beleagured Congress MP and former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh.

"What is unjustified in the privilege motion. There has been a leak. It is a fact and the whole country knows about it," CPI veteran AB Bardhan told reporters.

He was talking to reporters after Natwar Singh held a 45-minute meeting with him at the CPI headquarters.

"I have absolutely no comment to make," Natwar Singh said when pressed repeatedly on the privilege notice.

Bardhan said that there was one copy and it was given to the PMO and it was for the Prime Minister to say how it was leaked. "Within 15 minutes of its presentation, it was on the television and nobody has seen the report, How?" he asked.

Asked whether Natwar Singh was garnering support in his task, the CPI leader said "We are living in a democracy. He came to explain his version. He is not untouchable for us".

Bardhan said that he has told the former External Affairs Minister that "Whatever you are saying, you must explain the position in the Parliament".
