Hailing the state government for registering an FIR for cheating against the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) in Dharamsala, the state unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded taking over of the land to facilitate Central University.

In a press note issued here on Friday, CPM state secretariat member Tikender Singh Panwar has demanded that the government should also target other places like Lalpani School, Nurpur, and such other places that have been allegedly usurped by the organisation, which has virtually become a fiefdom of the BJP.

“The party has further demanded that the government should immediately take over the land being used for the construction of a five-star hotel and instead hand it over to Central University, which is desperately looking for a campus in and around Dharamsala,” he said.

Singh said the CPM right since the setting up the hotel had demanded the return of villagers' land, which was absolutely unconstitutional and even the Supreme Court had laid guidelines for not allowing common land to be parted for commercial purposes.

Lashing out at the BJP, the CPM accused the party of bringing in the culture of deceit and land mafia in Himachal Pradesh.

He alleged that there were efforts to usurp Annandale, but the agitation led by the Shimla Nagrik Sabha foiled the plan.

The present government must follow the mandate and ensure that Annandale too is seen with the same eye and the land adjoining the meadow be acquired in both state and national interest, he demanded.
