Following seizure of huge quantity of illegal crackers in Naini late Sunday night, raids were conducted for the whole day on Monday in Dandi under Naini police station on the outskirts of Allahabad.

Till the time of filing of report, crackers worth around 2.5 crore had been recovered from as many as seven godowns that have been sealed by police. Owners of all the seven godowns had fled. The field unit team along with police and officials of the sales tax department kept camping in Dandi for the whole day.

Sales tax department officials have expressed apprehension that tax around one crore had been evaded by those who had smuggled the crackers illegally. However, investigations were still going on.

It may be mentioned that a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) in charge Dhananjay Misra and Inspector Naini had seized crackers worth around a crore in Naini late Sunday night and had sealed four godowns in which the stuff had been stored. Police said, till late Monday night they had unearthed around seventeen truck loads of crackers.
