Raping a girl was their way of celebrating a minor win in a cricket match. Finally it was their cricket gear that led to their arrest.

Ten young men from the same village raped an MBA student just to celebrate their victory in Noida area on Monday night. The police got to know about the incident around 1:30 a.m. when the victim and her classmate came to Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Station to register their complaint.

Noida Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Tripathi said, “The victim told us that they were carrying cricket bats and wickets, which they also used to attack her male classmate and overpower him. Based on this lead, we formed six police teams and began searching villages in the nearby area. We also asked the people about local men who are in the age group of 18-25 and play cricket. Garhi Chawkhandi was the closest to the crime spot and teams were dispatched to question people there as well.”

Soon the police were able to zero in on a group that went to play cricket on the night of crime. The police were then able to nab the five main accused — Pushpendra Yadav, Shrikant Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, Sudhir Yadav and Gautam Yadav. All are residents of Garhi Chawkhandi and sons of small time farmers. All the accused are also undergraduate students.

The police are now looking for five other accused in the case. After the case was registered, the police took furtive action in the case.

After it was ascertained that the accused belong to Garhi Chawkhandi, a huge police team was sent to cordon off the whole village so that the accused could not flee. Then a house-by-house search was made and five were arrested.

“The only lead we had in the case was the cricket gear. That is what helped us crack the case and arrest the accused in 12 hours," added Tripathi.
