The crime rate has declined in the current year in the city as compared to the previous year shows the first six-month report.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sharma on Wednesday said: "The figure proves that the decline in the crime rate has been substantial as murders in the city down 18%, robbery and dacoity rate has been decreased by 29%."
Revealing figures to mediapersons here, police said: "Grievous hurt cases have been reduced by 8%, theft and burglary cases if put together are reduced by 13% whereas the accidents witnessed a decline of 9%".
Police claimed success in catching history-sheeters. Police said: "Thirty one proclaimed offenders, 99 bail jumpers, most wanted and parole jumpers were arrested up to June end this year, which is quite high when compared with the previous year".
Police said: "Besides solving riddles of many heinous crimes, the district police have also succeeded in preventing pre-emptive attacks by busting several intra-state and inter-state gangs."
The SSP said: "Regular raids in the district jail, paying proper attention towards witness protection and escort during transits were some of the key areas put on priority by police."
