A criminal case has been filed against Ram Iqbal Singh, the BJP candidate from Mau Lok Sabha seat in eastern Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly making objectionable comments against a community.
The case against him was registered last evening at the Kopa police station in Mau district.
Kopa Station Officer Bind Kumar said the case was lodged against Singh for allegedly making objectionable remarks against a “particular community”.
According to the FIR filed by the police on the direction of the district administration, Singh, while addressing a public meeting on April 9 under the Kopaganj police station in Mau, made the alleged comments.
Earlier, he has also been charged with holding a political meeting in Kopa town without permission from the administration.
A case for violating the model code of conduct was registered against Singh.
N Saroj, the station officer of Sarailakhansi police said, “Last week, the case was registered against Singh at this police station, for violating the poll conduct.”
