An alleged criminal was freed by his accomplices on Monday when he was being taken to Mathura jail in Uttar Pradesh after a court hearing in Gurgaon.

The incident took place near Biwipur in Mewat district, when three personnel of Uttar Pradesh Police were taking Sahoon back to Mathura in a Hyundai i10 car.

According to Mewat Senior Superindent of Police (SSP) Yogendra Singh Nehra, a group of assailants riding on a Mahindra Scorpio hit the police's vehicle and engaged the cops into an argument. At the same time a dozen of their associates got down from the SUV and drove away with the Hyundai car taking along Sahoon and one of the policemen.

They also took two guns of the policemen and escaped towards Hodal. The car was found abandoned in Mewat region, while the abducted policeman and the weapons were recovered from Koshi jungles, Nehra said.

Investigators also suspect the involvement of police personnel in the incident.
