A fortnight after a prisoners' van was attacked by unidentified people reportedly due to the police negligence, notorious criminal Ashok Doga escaped from the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here on Wednesday when he was taken for treatment.

Doga, 35, who was lodged in Gurgaon's Bondsi jail, was taken to the hospital for the treatment of his leg. He managed to dodge the police and escaped from outside the X-ray room with his accomplice on a motorcycle.

The Rohtak police had, in April, arrested Doga of Baliyana village of the district during an encounter operation from the district's Kharawar village. Doga, a parole jumper, is booked in 13 criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, Arms Act violations and dacoity.

A complaint was registered at the PGIMS medical police post, while the Gurgaon and Rohtak police have launched a search operation to arrest him.

Superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Duggal said a case has been registered against policemen on duty on a charge of negligence in duty.
