Unknown criminals shot dead a man on Saturday night on the Behrampur road, the police said.
According to the police, the victim, Virender Singh, 25, had come to Behrampur to visit his plot in the village and was starting his bike to go home in Khandsa. The police suspect personal enmity behind the murder.
However, the police have no clue on the killers as there was no witness to the crime. Although the victim was rushed to the hospital, he was declared brought dead by doctors. Six bullets were retrieved from his body, the police said.
The police said the victim had criminal background and an investigation is on into the matter. Singh used to rent out his property to slum dwellers. The incident took place at 9pm. "He was preparing to go home. We did not see anyone around and later heard gunshot sound. We rushed to the spot and Virender lying in a pool of blood. We rushed him to a hospital at Hero Honda Chowk, but they referred the case to Pushpanjali hospital. By the time we reached the hospital it was late."
A police officer said, "Virender had a criminal background. The investigation is going on and soon we will crack the case." After the post-mortem, the body is given to his family. He is survived by his wife and two children. Virender was living with his four brothers in the village.
