IN AN era of Information Technology, website is considered the most reliable source of latest information. However, the website of Chatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU) provides obsolete information due to lack of updating.
If CSJMU website is to be believed, the UP Minister for Higher Education is still OM Prakash Singh. The website though contains exhaustive details and profile of the vice chancellor of the CSJMU, Dr SS Katiyar with his picture, it provides very little information about the chancellor of universities of the state. On the page titled as ‘The Board of Management Officers of the University’, R Sahai has been shown as the director of College Development Council (CBC), who died long time back and CP Singh was appointed the new director. The number of affiliated colleges has been shown as 151 on the website, while this number has now gone up to 296.
The website contains proceedings of the meeting of the executive council held on October 24, 2000. The last proceeding included in it dates back to April 24, 2006. But it does not provide any information about the proceedings of the meetings held between 2000 to 2005.
Though the name of Institute of Engineering and Technology has been changed as University Institute of Engineering and Technology, the website still holds the previous name of the institute.
Similarly, information about the number of deans, faculty members and departments remains to be updated. For example, the number of departments have increased but the website shows only eight departments.
Most of the information related to university has been not updated after October 2, 2005, causing great inconvenience to the website surfers.
The registrar of the university Mahesh Chandra could not be contacted either for his comment.
