Curfew was imposed in Jammu and Rajouri districts after arson and communal tension was reported from the region late on Saturday night, amid fresh reports of violence from curfew-bound Kishtwar, which left three people injured.
While there were no immediate reports of casualties in the districts, Jammu divisional commissioner Shantmanu said attempts were made to set two shops ablaze, while two vehicles were torched in the New Plot area, after which curfew was imposed in the district.
Seven people, including a senior police officer, sustained wounds in clashes, lathicharge and tear-gas shelling in Jammu city earlier in the day.
Protests were held in Jammu and adjoining districts which observed bandh in protest against communal clashes in Kishtwar district.
Communal tension ran high in Rajouri district and curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure, SSP Mubassir Lattifee said.
Kishtwar district on Saturday witnessed stray incidents of stone-pelting even as army personnel patrolled the streets. The local administration advised people to remain indoors and not to violate prohibitory orders.
Clashes were reported in Gulabgarh area of Paddar. Some shops were also burnt.
