The Special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court on Tuesday convicted Additional Collector (Customs, Preventive) Somnath Thapa, two friends of Sanjay Dutt, Yusuf Nulwala and Kersi Adejania, and a woman, Zaibunnisa Kazi.

Judge Pramod Kode convicted Thapa for conspiracy and for aiding and abetting prime conspirators Dawood Ibrahim, Mohammed Dossa and Tiger Memon in the landing of arms and ammunition meant for terrorist acts.

Thapa was also held guilty for not acting on a tip-off about the landing operation.

The former customs official, who was dismissed from duty after a special notification from the President of India in 1997, survived a shootout by alleged Chhota Rajan associates.

The court convicted Thapa on the basis of confessions of co-accused and evidence of witnesses.

After his conviction, Thapa moved an application seeking time to surrender as he has lung cancer and needs treatment. The court gave him time till December 18.
The next in dock was Zaibunnisa Kazi, charged with possession and storing of arms and ammunition at her Bandra house. The court convicted her based on her own confessional statement and that of other co-accused.

Others to be convicted included Yusuf Nulwala and Kersi Adejania. The court has granted them time till December 14 to surrender.
