Dacoits At IT again

Highlight Story

COCKING A snook at policing in the State Capital, a gang of armed dacoits struck at a hotel owner’s residence in Bairagarh late on Thursday night and decamped with cash and jewellery worth over Rs 6 lakh.
This is the fourth dacoity in the City with the same modus operandi and it occurred the night when the City police reviewed its patrolling and increased security.

Five intruders armed with a revolver and knives broke into the house of Tarachand Sadarangani, 55, behind Nirmal Nursery near Laxman Nagar around 3.30 am.

They tore apart bedsheets and tied all family members who were sleeping in various rooms before rummaging the entire house. At knifepoint they asked for the key of the almirah from Tarachand’s son Kanhaiya whose room was shut from within but they unlatched it with the help of some equipment and took away half a kg of gold apart from Rs 30,000.

The dacoits relieved Tarachand’s daughter-in-law of ornaments she was wearing and took her to his wife Janki’s room where they also collected the valuables. They left the house after almost two hours leaving all the family members tied and shut in kitchen and bathroom. As in all recent dacoities, the youths were respectful to elders and did not hit anybody.

They had unbolted the screws of the grill on the front side from outside to break into the house. Earlier, in dacoities at a mining officer’s house in Ayodhya Nagar, a retired IAS officers house at Shahpura and a builder’s house at Idgah Colony the modus operandi and appearance of the dacoits was similar.

The dacoits had kept their faces covered. They had not tightened a bathroom latch and Tarchand later informed his neighbours who called the police.

Senior police officials and forensic experts rushed to the spot. The case was registered and an intensive hunt launched for the gang. It is surmised that it is the same gang involved in all the dacoities. However, the police are groping in the dark about the culprits.

Stepped up security in vain
The daredevilry of the gang has caught the police off guard the dacoity comes barely two days after a similar strike at Idgah Hills.

The police had claimed stepping up security on Thursday night. Senior police officials were patrolling at night and even Station Officers (SOs) were asked to stay at police stations in the night. DGP Swaraj Puri held a meeting of officials on Thursday evening and even visited the Police Control Room.

However, undeterred by such arrangements the dacoits not only managed to commit the dacoity but escaped with booty too.
