IN A second incident of dacoity in a fortnight, dacoits decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 64,000 on the night intervening Tuesday and Wednesday. This time, dacoits targeted a house of a retired IAS officer in Shahpura. On June 20, dacoits struck at a house in Ayodhya Nagar.
According to information, the gang had reportedly tried to break into neighbouring houses before they entered the B-158 residence of OP Dubey, a retired IAS officer and presently Executive Director of Makhanlal Chaturvedi University of Journalism at around 3 am.
The intruders broke the bedroom door and barged inside. As the elderly couple was woken up by the noise, three masked men who were in the front asked them to keep silent and started rummaging through the house. Two other persons were behind them.
All the dacoits had kept their faces covered and were armed with lathi, knife and a revolver. While leaving the house two hours later, the dacoits tied the couple to the cot and put tape on their mouth besides warning them not to inform anybody. They had cut the phone line earlier.
Later, the couple managed to free themselves and informed the neighbours who called the police. IG Sanjeev Kumar Singh, SP Anant Kumar Singh and other officials rushed to the spot at around 6:30 am. The couple told police that the dacoits were talking to them respectfully and didn’t misbehave. They searched the house thoroughly and with comfort for almost two hours.
The gold rings, ear studs and silver coins were also taken away apart from a cell phone. The dacoits had reportedly told the couple that while there were two cars parked in the house, there was hardly any cash or valuables in accordance to their status.
They also lifted the gun kept in the house but didn’t take it away, sources said. The couple lives alone in their Shahpura residence. Their sons are posted outside Bhopal. The fingerprints and footprints have been taken from the scene of crime and the Habibganj police registered a case of dacoity. The investigations are on.
2 incidents, similar modus operandi
THE INCIDENT is similar in many respects to the dacoity at the house of Mining Corporation official RK Khare in Ayodhya Nagar that occurred on June 20. The dacoits had broken into the house at HIG-67 Ayodhya Nagar and went away with cash and jewellery worth Rs 30,000.
The difference was that this time the couple was tied and the window was opened by loosening the screws. However, the dacoits addressed the couple as ‘uncle ji’ and ‘autie ji’.
The gang members ate mangoes, snacks and also the dry fruits kept in the refrigerator. SP Anant Kumar Singh said a special team has been formed under the Additional SP to catch the dacoits. The checking was intensified in the capital and the police parties were deployed at Misrod, Habibganj, Bhopal and Bairagarh railway stations.
