FORMER PRIME Minister VP Singh said that he would lead a protest march from Deoria to Dadri against the Mulayam Singh Yadav government. The march will be organised from September 16 to November 27 by the Jan Morcha Alliance (JMA).
Addressing newsmen here on Thursday, Singh assailed the government for asking principal secretary energy to attend ‘Bhoomi Pujan’at Dadri power project site today.
The former Prime Minister said that announcement to start construction work at the site was aimed at misleading the people as gas was not availabile for the project. Singh said that the Dadri movement was a symbol of corruption in high places. He said that if any attempt was made to cut standing crops at the project land, he would again lead a march to Dadri. Singh said that the 49-day march would pass through 63 districts. JMA general secretary Ramashish Rai was made convenor of the march, he added.
JMA convenor Raj Babbar, who also addressed the media persons, said that the Dadri project was one of the biggest land scandals in the country. While not more than 350 acres land was required for the project, the State Government had given 2500 acres land. Babbar said that Dadri farmers had been paid Rs 150 per square yard but Reliance Energy Limited (REL) had shown the cost of land as Rs 5,700 per square yard in bank documents to seek loans.
He said that in order to help REL to get the loan, the government first included the land in Dadri Industrial Development Area (DIDA) but when the purpose was not served, the area was declared part of Greater Noida phase II. He said that by just one government order, the cost of land had shot up to Rs 5,700 per square yard. He said that while farmers had been paid total amount of Rs 160 crore, the cost of land was Rs 7,200 crore.
Babbar said the moves were afoot to declare the acquired land as part of special economic zone (SEZ) so that land cost might go up further. The State Government had given massive tax holiday to SEZ. Babbar said, “Dadri project symbolised all types of corruption and fraud involving those in power in the State.”
Targeting the UP Development Council (UPDC) Babbar said that the government had made fake claim about Rs 7,2000 crore investment and added that the government was on land grabbing spree in the SEZ to help capitalists.
