The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday said that crucial parts had been edited out of the sting operation video, which surfaced on Thursday and purportedly showed its leaders and candidates of seeking funds to push land deals, etc. The video, the party said, also misrepresented the conversations.
“The sting accused RK Puram candidate Shazia Ilmi of agreeing to attend a demonstration against a company and receive cash donations without receipts. Actually, when the sting reporter approaches Shazia, she refuses to help without any documentary evidence. She says she will only do it if she gets concrete evidence.
“She says she does not and will not lie,” the party said after having examined the raw footage.
The party said the raw footage showed that she never agreed to take large cash without receipts.
“Shazia tries to leave and the reporter follows her.”
“Shazia is seen saying “haan, haan” to evade the reporter,” the party said.
“The reporter asks party leader Kumar Vishwas about the terms of engagement to speak at a kavi sammelan. Kumar notes that he will not attend the show unless he receives the entire payment in advance. His personal assistant says that they allow different forms of receipts, including a note in their formal letterhead. Kumar mentions that he can accept cash as well as cheque. This part of the footage is interpreted as Kumar accepting black money.”
In the actual raw footage, this sentence is followed by a critical point — he says that be it cash or cheque, we will pay income tax on it,” the party said.
The party gave similar explanations for others featured in the sting.
In a late evening statement, web portal mediasarkar.com, which carried out the sting, said it stood by the disclosures it had made.
“AAP supporters are constantly threatening and abusing our CEO Anuranjan Jha. We condemn it. We have been accused of taking `12 crore for this sting. The party must explain who gave us this money or we will seek legal action against them,” the statement said.
