With reference to the editorial LTTE threat in the air (March 28), the demonstration of air power by the LTTE is a serious development which can have disastrous consequences not only for Sri Lanka but for India also. While there has been no official reaction from India as yet, there is no way that we can turn a blind eye to this development, given the memories of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination and the growing cult of suicide bombing.

Valuable verdict

Apropos of the report Manjunath killer sentenced to death (March 27), the court must be commended for this decision. Now criminals will think twice before committing such crimes. Today when the crime graph is growing by the day, such strong punishment is the only answer. Manjunath was innocent. This decision is a consolation to his family.

The court’s verdict is a significant trend in the justice delivery system. It is hoped that the criminals still roaming free with the blessings of politicians will be brought to book.

Begs an answer

Apropos of Harsh Mander’s article Wishes are not horses (March 20), beggars don’t beg for the thrill of it but because they don’t have any choice. It is disappointing that poverty is proliferating like a virus and the government is helpless.

Paper tigers

The ludicrous amount of money that cricketers make may have been one of the causes for India’s disastrous World Cup campaign. Indians should pledge not to purchase items endorsed by Indian cricketers.
