In a daredevil incident, over two-dozen people stormed into the Kotwali police station in Morena, and forcibly took away a fraud-accused who had been caught by a police team from New Delhi, and managed to escaped along with the detainee. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Morena, 465 km north of Bhopal.
Police said fraud accused, Sanjeev Singh Kansana had been picked up from his house by a team of Delhi police. Sanjeev had a case registered against him in Greater Kailash police station in Delhi. The police team that came from Delhi, took him from his office to the Kotwali police station.
But soon after, Kansana's brother Raghuraj Singh Kansana, who is a former district panchayat president, along with his supporters stormed into the police station. They allegedly roughed up the policemen and after creating ruckus, forcibly took away Sanjeev. During the ruckus, the intruders allegedly fired a gunshot in the air, sources said.
Police said that the Delhi team hadn't informed the local police about their arrival. There were just two policemen at Kotwali in the morning. Range IG SW Naqvi said that the policemen were outnumbered in the incident. "Of the five member Delhi police team, two were in uniform and the rest were in civil dress", he said. Naqvi said that efforts were on to catch the accused.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Satish Bino said that Sanjeev was booked in a case of fraud in Delhi and a police team had come to arrest him but Kansana's supporters forcibly entered the police station and whisked him away. The Delhi policemen, most of whom were in plain-clothes, had arrested Sanjeev from his office here in the morning.
A case has been registered against the former panchayat president and Congress leader Raghuraj Singh Kanshana and 12 others on charges of attempted murder and obstructing public servants from discharge of duty as well as creating ruckus. After the incident the police force raided Kanshana's house and office but they did not find anyone there besides the women of the family.
