Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom, Deoband has issued a fatwa (decree) against Muslim quacks saying medical practice without proper qualification is 'haram' in the Shariat law.

The written fatwa was issued by the seminary in response to a query from a local doctor who had asked whether a Muslim 'doctor' having no genuine certificate could provide medical treatment to patients.

"Any person involved in such medical practice should immediately give up this job as it is illegal and against the Shariat laws," the seminary said.

The clerics in the institutions said anything which is harmful for the society and against its wellbeing had been outlawed by Islam.
