With the deadline for Commonwealth Games fast approaching, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), responsible for infrastructure development of games sites, has rolled up its sleeves and started a daily review of preparations for the mega event.

Principal Commissioner of Commonwealth Games Veena Ish has started holding daily meetings with her support staff and officers involved in the infrastructure development of games sites to keep a track on the pace of work and achieve the December 2009 deadline of various related projects.

Ish is also looking to better coordination among various work groups engaged in construction work at the village site.

The housing authority's chairman Lt Governor Tejender Khanna and vice-chairman Ashok Nigam are also engaged in a similar process of reviewing the preparations on fortnightly and weekly basis respectively.

"The regular monitoring of work by officials will definitely help us achieve targets on time. It is a crucial step in accomplishment of goals. DDA is moving on the right pace and will definitely achieve the results without any delay," an official spokesperson said.

"According to the set deadlines, the progress of work is going on and we are confident that by December 2009, we will complete all our targets. There is no question of extending dates, when everything is going on as per schedule," the spokesperson said.

Officials in DDA believe the new practice will certainly help in achieving its goals for an event which is barely two years away and when most of the civic agencies in the capital are toiling hard to meet their deadlines.
