Latching onto the allegation of the chairman of a committee which looked into the DDCA affairs, BJP on Monday said it has “vindicated” its stand that the Arvind Kejriwal government was “conspiring to tarnish” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s image.
After senior IAS officer Chetan B Sanghi wrote to Home Ministry that he was pressured to name a “certain VIP”, BJP said that Sanghi had “exposed” the Delhi Chief Minister’s “low-level” politics and Kejriwal had now “fallen into his own trap”.
Sanghi, a Principal Secretary in the Vigilance Department, who is now on leave, has written about the alleged pressure in a letter to Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi. Sanghi had headed the committee formed by the Delhi government to look into the Delhi and District Cricket Association affairs. It had not named anybody, prompting BJP to attack the AAP dispensation after it set up a commission of inquiry to probe alleged corruption in the DDCA.
“The AAP government has been acting out of political malice to malign his (Jaitley) image. What the officer has said has vindicated our stand and exposed Kejriwal’s low level politics. It was all part of a conspiracy to deflect the focus from his principal secretary facing corruption charges,” BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said.
The AAP leader is known for using such “hit and run” tactics, he alleged and asserted that Kejriwal had dialled the wrong number this time and will have to pay a price, a reference to civil and criminal defamation case filed against him and other AAP leaders by Jaitley. “He should be prepared to go to jail.”
Instead of doing what he was voted for, the BJP media cell head said, the Delhi CM was busy clashing with the LG and the Centre for one reason or another.
