THE MAN who organised the 51-hour nonstop ‘Ramayan Path’ by a Muslim recently to spread message of love and brotherhood has received a death threat via a letter. He has lodged a complaint with IG Rajendra Kumar in this regard.

Devesh Bajpai of Shri Ram Navyuvak Ramayan Mandal had organised ‘Ramayan Path’ by Mohammad Yusuf Hindustani at Gandhi Hall on December 7. The 51-hour-long recitation concluded amidst much fanfare.

The threat letter came by post and was written in Hindi. The letter said, “Devesh Bajpai, (you) dog, your end would be very bad (since) you have committed a grave crime by making a Muslim indulge in idol worship. We will chop your head off to punish you for this crime.” It ends with ‘Islam Zindabad’.

The letter arrived at Devesh’s home address on Wednesday. It was written on an inland letter and bore the stamp of RMS, Indore. Bajpai and Yusuf met the IG this morning and urged him to help them in this matter.

Yusuf Hindustani took to reading Hindu epics more than 25 years ago. He visits temples and has performed in over 400 Ramayan Path programmes and has also participated in Shiv Puran and Sundar Kand programmes.

Additional SP (east) Manoj Shrivastava said police were investigating the matter. A case under Section 507 of IPC has been registered at the Pardeshipura police station in this regard, he added.
