TEN DEER, nine of them female, were found dead at ‘Vikram Vatika’ here on Sunday. The park, situated opposite the Collector’s bungalow is maintained by the Bhadoria group.

After receiving information Veterinary Department officials reached the park and conducted the post mortem of the animals. Doctor P D Trivedi said several wounds were found on the bodies indicating the animals were attacked. He did not rule out the possibilities of poaching leading to their deaths.

Park employees, however, maintained that since it was breeding time, brawls were common among male deer and this could be the reason for the wounds.

Police have not yet registered any case and said action will be initiated if the veterinary department files a report. In all, there were 34 deer at the park but there had been several reports over the last few months that the animals were not being looked after properly.
