Deft bit of ‘cutework’

india Updated: Jul 11, 2007 23:50 IST

Soccer and glamour have always proved a heady mixture. It was once again on display at a dance club in Lisbon on Monday when Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo deftly scored with Bollywood’s queen of hearts, Bipasha Basu. The 22-year-old football ace was ‘caught’ kissing the 28-year-old Basu. The duo was in Lisbon for the release of the list of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

As expected, the photographic evidence of the duo’s off-field antics made front-page news. But Basu proved to be a real pro when it came to handling situations like these. Instead of denying the incident and accusing the media of doctoring photographs (aka Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur), the lady coolly acknowledged that she was the one involved in the incident and went on to add that Ronaldo is “cute and it was strange when he called me cute. He is friend now and has promised me that I will be invited to all his matches”. Now, if that’s not attitude, then what is? Then, she clearly left us stranded in midfield asking for more with the ultimate ‘East meets West’ comment: “I was surprised when he told me that his mom watches old Hindi film movies. Ronaldo has the songs of Masoom in his mobile phone.” Touche! Boy, wasn’t he right on the ball with Basu?

The Jism star is back in Mumbai and we are told that a certain Mr John Abraham is busy upgrading his football prowess, especially his man-for-man marking skills. And Basu? She is busy updating Ronaldo on some new Bollywood tunes: Dhoom 2, possibly?
