With Delhi staring at a possible President's rule, all eyes are on Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung who was appointed this July.

In the absence of an elected government, Jung will run the city.

Experts said the situation could be like pre-1993 before the Delhi Assembly was reconstituted. As a Union Territory, it was the L-G who was the chief administrator in the Capital. The UT system still exists in Pondicherry, Lakshdweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh and Daman and Diu.

Jung, who has been in office for only five months, earlier served as the vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (2009 to 2013). A 1973-batch IAS officer, Jung is the 19th Lt-Governor of Delhi.

Najeeb Jung was born on January 18, 1951, in Delhi. As the Lt Governor, Jung is in-charge of Delhi Police and Delhi Development Authority besides being the administrative head of the Delhi government.

Jung joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1973 from the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He served in MP in various capacities, including collector and district magistrate of three districts.
