A Punjab resident, who was accused of raping a woman on the false promise of marriage, has been acquitted by a Delhi court which noted that physical relations between them were consensual and they have now got married.

Additional sessions judge Kaveri Baweja freed Ajay Parasar of the charges of repeatedly raping the woman, causing her miscarriage, criminally intimidating her and causing hurt by giving poison.

“Keeping in view the fact that the prosecutrix completely failed to support the case of the prosecution, despite being crossexamined at length by the prosecutor, I find that the prosecution has failed to prove the charges on which accused has been facing trial.

“From the testimony of the prosecutrix, it cannot be made out that accused ever committed rape upon her at any point of time. It also does not stand proved that he administered any intoxicating substance to her or threatened her or caused her miscarriage, as alleged,” the judge said.
