In the wake of intelligence inputs warning of terror attacks during Lok Sabha polls, the Delhi police will press in nearly 500 dedicated mobile quick reaction teams (QRTs) in addition to local police to ensure security on the polling day.

These mobile units, which have specific mandate to neutralise any terror attack in Delhi, will work in tandem with the local police to maintain law and order on May 7, the polling day.

The units comprising 2,000 police personnel and commandos, equipped with sophisticated assault rifles, communication systems and surveillance gadgets, will be placed on round-the-clock duty, a senior police officer said.

In the post-Mumbai attacks, the Delhi police constituted 650 QRT. Of these about 550 are mobile units, while remaining are static guarding various key installations across the city, the officer said.

The teams will be handed over the layout of prime establishments in the city to avoid confusion, he said adding that it will help them deal in a better way when any such need comes.

Delhi Police Commissioner YS Dadwal had earlier this month said that the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi face threats from terrorist organisations based outside the country.

"There is a threat to the elections from terrorist organisations based outside the country ... We are aware and live to the inputs," Dadwal had said.
