A designated TADA court would hear on July 14 the plea of Delhi police to seek custody of extradited gangster Abu Salem in an extortion case registered against him in the capital.
A team of Delhi police was in Mumbai on July 3 with a production warrant to seek the custody of extradited gangster Abu Salem in an extortion case registered against him in Delhi but Judge PD Kode asked the cops to come back on July 14.
The Delhi police team urged designated Judge PD Kode to grant the custody of Salem as he was wanted in an extortion case being tried in Tis Hazari court in Delhi. Police had produced a warrant from the court seeking Salem's custody.
The TADA court, however, deferred the matter to July 14 for orders as Salem's lawyer Ashok Sarogi sought time to file a reply.
Salem is facing trial in the 1993 bomb blast case, Ajit Dewani murder case and Pradeep Jain murder case. These three cases are among the eight cited by the government in a Portugal court to seek his extradition. The trial of Salem in these cases is not yet over.
Eight months after Salem's Extradition, a Delhi court has issued production warrant seeking his custody in an extortion case.
In the 1993 bomb blast case, the TADA court had separated his trial from those of the other accused.
