Train services on the Delhi-Ambala-Kalka (DUK) section of the Northern Railway remained disrupted for several hours on Tuesday due to dense fog which enveloped the Sonepat region, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
Railway sources said the movement of almost all the long-distance and suburban trains were running behind schedule by two to nine hours.
The Shaheed Express running between Darbhanga (Bihar) and Amritsar (Punjab) was delayed by seven hours.
The delay in trains caused inconvenience to thousands of passengers who have to wait for the delayed trains by sitting on the platforms of the railway stations in biting cold wave conditions.
Similarly, the suburban trains originating from Delhi, Panipat, Kurukshetra and Ambala passed through the city here behind schedule and most of them were overcrowded.
Meanwhile, Sonepat city experienced yet another cold day today. The sun shone by before noon but failed to give much relief to the people as the cold wave conditions continued unabated. People preferred to keep themselves indoors.
